I just went to a Warhol exhibit on Sunday for the first time. Weird dude, but I can appreciate his style. The put-your-hand-on-your-face idea seemed a bit overused, though.

If I ever own a cat, I hope it’s a cat like this.

There is so much I don't understand about God...

And that, I believe, is perfect.

Earlier in the semester, my Radiation Physics professor started talking about the Super-K neutrino detector, which is a HUGE underground device used to detect extremely tiny, extremely fast subatomic particles called neutrinos.

We don’t know that much about neutrinos for a simple reason: they are so small and fast that they can pass clear through the earth without interacting with a single other particle. Because of this, we can’t detect them very easily at all. Let me put it into perspective for you. Fifty trillion neutrinos (ejected from the sun)… pass through your body… every second!

Anyways… we don’t understand neutrinos fully yet. Not nearly as well as we understand.. say.. radio waves. We’ve studied radio waves, and understand the way they work enough to harness their properties for our benefit. Because of our understanding of radio waves, I will submit this text from my laptop to be seen by you, without plugging it into anything at all.

If we understood neutrinos, we could harness them in the same way, and have a form of instantaneous interstellar communication (which we couldn’t use until we get people to Mars or something, but that’s another issue).

Ok, here’s the point I’m trying to make.. There are some aspects of God that I feel like I understand about as much as I do neutrinos. But what I’ve come to realize is, how could I expect anything else? If ever we were to understand God completely, that would mean we could control Him, like we do radio waves. This is not possible. How can we, mere humans, expect to ever fully understand the Maker of the Universe and everything in it (including neutrinos)!?

This may sound a bit hopeless to you, but I find it freeing. Utterly. Because this God, this Maker of Everything.. is a personal God. I can talk to Him, and He listens. He cares about the itty-bitty things going on in my life that I start to worry about now and again (and again). And though I may not understand Him, I can rest in Him.

Another from the Avett’s. This one’s called A Gift for Melody Lane, and it’s one of my favorites.

I especially like “And I wanna stand up / I wanna stand tall / If I ever have have a son, if I ever have a daughter / I don’t wanna tell them that I didn’t give my all.”
